NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Despite the very cold weather, local holiday light displays and celebrations are preparing to welcome many visitors this weekend.
From the dazzling lights, to the sights of friends and family, it’s the most wonderful time of year, and perhaps the coldest.
“It’s supposed to be outside, it’s Christmas time, so it’s nice to come out here in the cold with our family and see the lights,” said Hampton Roads resident James Davis.
Whether you’re in your warm car to enjoy the Oceanfront’s drive-through lights, or if you’re braving the cold, you have some great options, too.
“When it is cold here at Winterfest, it feels more like winter, so it’s exciting for us and we just want to invite everyone in,” said Cat Taterway, Nauticus associate director of marketing. “Even when it’s cold, we have firepits to roast s’mores over. We have heaters so you can enjoy your drink, and we have some indoor entertainment and stuff inside so you’re able to stay warm at Winterfest.”
Winterfest on the Wisconsin returns with a theme of classic holiday movies. With activities for everyone in the family, the team there said you will want to visit sooner rather than later.
“There are only a few more nights of value pricing,” Taterway said.
Your ticket comes with lots of fun.
“We’re enjoying it so far,” said Gail Savoy. “All the lights coming in and everything, I didn’t think they were gonna get on the ship, they were taking so many pictures of the lights.”
Taterway advised people to dress for the cold.
“While you can stay warm, we do suggest bundling up [and] wearing your layers,” Taterway said. “Use your hand warmers, wear a hat and feel nice and cozy.”
