VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — Three adults are displaced, and one cat is deceased after a fire in the 1500 block of Winter Road in Virginia Beach on Sunday evening.
At approximately 7:10 p.m., the Virginia Beach Fire Department responded to the reported residential structure fire in the Thoroughgood area.
Upon arrival, crews observed heavy smoke and flames from the front of the single-story home.
Two residents were transported to a local hospital for treatment. One individual suffered from smoke inhalation while the other individual had minor burns.
This is one of many fires that fire departments have responded to over the weekend in southeast Virginia. Virginia Beach Battalion Chief Larry Zimba says people need to stay alert.
“Have a home evacuation plan, you know? Keep combustibles away. Just overall fire safety. Working smoke detectors are always a plus,” said Battalion Chief Larry Zimba.
The cause and origin of the fire is under investigation.
