CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) — Chesapeake Police Department is investigating reports of attempted car break-ins.
One neighbor tells 10 On Your Side someone is in the Portlock neighborhood tampering with residents cars, and it was caught on camera.
“I walked out to my car and I noticed the interior lights were on and the door was propped open,” said resident Niaimy De La Cruz. “And, I thought maybe we left it out the night before, we left it open. So as soon as I open my door, I realize my glove box, my middle compartment were all trashed through, stuff was thrown everywhere, personal belongings.”
Chesapeake Police Department has confirmed one other incident in the area. De La Cruz took to social media, where others say they’re also seeing the issue.
“I posted it on the Ring app and [the] NextDoor app and let people know what was going on,” De La Cruz said. “And there were many people who also also happened to that same morning and they have footage of him walking across their house.”
De La Cruz said the area is primarily quiet, so she was surprised this happened. She encourages neighbors to stay vigilant, as the culprit is still out there.
“I would say to be on the lookout, even if it’s that early in the morning or that late at night,” De La Cruz said. “Keep your cameras on, put your alerts on, your notifications — as soon as you hear it go off, check, make sure these people know that you’re watching them until they’re found.”
