NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — A person suffered minor burns after an electric wheelchair caught fire at a rehab facility in Norfolk.

At approximately 7 p.m., Norfolk Fire-Rescue crews responded to Consulate Health Care in reference to a report of a commercial structure fire.

Upon arrival, crews found an electric wheelchair had caught fire in a resident’s room on the first floor.

The sprinkler system in the room extinguished the fire.

The resident was transported to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital for minor burns.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
