MAXTON, N.C. (WBTW) — Maxton police have identified a 7-year-old girl who was shot and killed Sunday afternoon while riding in a car with several other people.

Quazariya G. Williams died at Scotland Memorial Hospital in Laurinburg after police said Dedric Page, 31, of Maxton, fired shots into a car with five other people inside on E. Graham Street, Police Chief Schirra Johnson said. It happened at about 2 p.m.

She was a cheerleader and a “sweet girl who had a lot going on in her life,” Maxton police Lt. Patrick Hunt said.

Page was arrested shortly after the shooting and charged with first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, discharging a firearm into an occupied vehicle, discharging a firearm in city limits and possession of a firearm by a felon. Hunt said he was out on bond on a weapons charge at the time of the shooting.

According to Hunt, the shooting happened during a dispute between Page and the girl’s mother. Page was taken to the Robeson County Detention Center.
