PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) – The Department of Defense (DOD) announced they will be testing an expansion of commissary shopping privileges to military civilian employees starting on Thursday.
According to a release, 16 Defense Commissary Agency (DeCA) stores across the United States will be a part of a 120 day test to expand commissary shopping privileges for DOD civilian employees.
“We welcome the opportunity to participate in DOD’s pilot to expand commissary shopping privileges to DOD civilian employees at 16 of our stores,” DeCA Director and Chief Executive Officer John E. Hall said.
The location for the stores participating in the pilot can be found below:
- Alaska: Eielson Air Force Base
- California: Naval Air Weapons Station China Lake and Fort Irwin
- Georgia: Marine Corps Logistical Base Albany and Robins Air Force Base
- Maryland: Naval Air Station Patuxent River
- Oklahoma: Atlus Air Force Base
- Texas: Laughlin Air Force Base
- Virginia: Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren, Joint Base Langley-Eustis (For Eustis and Langley Air Force Base Commissaries), Fort Gregg-Adams, Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek-Fort Story (Little Creek Commissary), Naval Base Norfolk, Naval Air Station Oceana and Norfolk Naval Ship Yard (Portsmouth)
The stores were chosen based off certain criteria to help gather research data, including store size, demographics and geography.
During the pilot, DeCA will closely monitor the chosen stores in order to test the feasibility of furthering the expansion to other stores.
The expansion will not include access for family members of DOD civilian employees, former or retired DOD civilian employees, the purchase of tobacco, the purchase of alcohol and Commissary Click2Go online shopping privileges.
