CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) — The Chesapeake Fire Department was on the scene of a brush fire in the southern Chesapeake section of the city.

At around 11:50 a.m., emergency crews responded to the 3600 block of Battlefield Boulevard South in reference to a call from a local resident of rapidly spreading flames in a field that were nearing a barn structure. First responders arrived to find an active fire consuming an open field and neighboring woods.

Using brush trucks and deploying multiple hose lines, firefighters successfully extinguished the flames before any structures were damaged, preventing its spread deeper into the woods.

The fire burned an estimated eight acres total before being put out.

Authorities temporary closed Battlefield Boulevard South to accommodate water supply lines that crossed both traffic lanes.

No injuries were reported.

The origin and cause of the fire remains unknown.
