hristians of varying denominations are observing Lent at this time of year. That means for some abstinence from various food, drink, or activities. One tradition is to avoid so-called “noble” means on Friday. That means no beef, pork, lamb, or other red meat, as well as poultry. Fish, however, is allowed. That has led to a a tasty tradition; the Friday Lent fish fry. Many churches and social organizations hold them, but they are traditionally associated with Catholic churches. Our Lady of Nazareth Roman Catholic Church will hold fish fries until Easter weekend. The food is cooked and served by local Knights of Columbus and Ancient Order of Hibernians chapters.
